The "Monster" Video

You may recall my excitement earlier in the week when I mentioned that Kanye West was in the process of filming two music videos for the singles "All of The Lights" and "Monster". Well, the latter premiered today, and is here at Beatissimo for your viewing dis-pleasure.

Put simply, it is typical Kanye fare, a big music clip which demands your attention and leaves you asking, 'which came first, the art or the controversy?'

The track became a favourite with fans and critics alike following its release. For the many reviewers who gave props to Nicki Minaj for "stealing the show" on the track, it should come as no surprise that she also steals the spotlight in the clip, having, by far, the most interesting scene. Rick Ross does nothing but smoke a cigar, Jay-Z's lacklustre rap feature is followed-through with him just standing there looking like Stevie Wonder in front of a corpse, and Kanye's biggest metaphoric moments are overshadowed by the scenes involving him getting shiesty with the dead and holding decapitated heads.

Overall, I love the song no less, but I do feel as though the uncomfortableness of staring at near-naked corpses for nearly six minutes was unnecessary. What do you think?
